2 Minute Football QB Legend Beginner Guide

New to the game, or to American football? This guide covers the rules in the order you will meet them. You can play on our homepage while you read.

1. The goal

Outscore your opponent before the clock hits zero. A game is four one-minute quarters, so there is very little time to waste.

2. Picking a play

Each down starts with choosing a play. The play sets the routes your receivers run, shown as yellow lines. You don't need to memorize anything; just pick one and watch who gets open.

3. Passing

Once the receivers start running, click or tap near the one with the most space. The developer's own advice is to wait a beat after the snap so routes have time to develop, and to throw to the least-guarded receiver.

4. Running

After the catch, the runner moves automatically but you steer: arrow keys or WASD, or drag with the mouse or your finger. You can also scramble the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. The play ends when you are tackled, and the next one starts from that spot.

5. The spin move

Once per play you can spin by pressing Space or double-clicking. Use it to slip past a defender who is about to tackle you.

6. Downs

A down is one play. You get four downs to gain 20 yards. Make it and you keep the ball; fall short and the opponent takes possession.

7. Scoring and the clock

Catch or run the ball into the end zone for a 7-point touchdown. If time is running out, step out of bounds to stop the clock.

8. Season and playoffs

Win games to work through the season and the playoffs, with the championship as the final goal.
